OpenAI’s subtle drift from Microsoft has become an aggressive move toward Amazon

"the two are not related in any way," she told cnbc. analysts aren't so sure. since late october, when microsoft got a 27% stake in openai's for-profit side, openai agreed to buy an incremental $250 billion of azure services. but in november, openai disclosed a $38 billion commitment with aws. in late february, amazon said it would invest $50 billion in openai, which would use 2 gigawatts of aws' trainium chips. the aws spending commitment expanded to $100 billion. microsoft lost its exclusive cloud provider status early last year. the latest deal ends microsoft's exclusive license to openai's ip and its revenue share payments. microsoft also won't be the sole cloud provider for api products built with third parties. ubs analysts wrote the deal "is looking to be quite fluid and could change again in six months."
