Video shows Cole Allen casing hotel, storming checkpoint in alleged Trump assassination attempt

surveillance video released thursday shows cole tomas allen casing the washington hilton hotel on april 24, then the next evening storming a secret service checkpoint with a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun. a secret service officer drew his handgun and fired multiple times as allen sprinted through the checkpoint. the incident happened outside the white house correspondents' association dinner, where president donald trump was set to speak. the video was posted on x by u.s. attorney jeanine pirro, whose office is prosecuting allen — a 31-year-old caltech grad and tutor from torrance, california. pirro said investigators found no evidence a secret service agent struck by gunfire was hit by friendly fire. the agent was not seriously injured because the shot was stopped by protective gear, trump has said. on april 24, allen is seen walking a hallway with the same carpet as the shooting scene, then entering a gym and talking to an attendant. the next night at 8:23 pm, he's seen in a long coat walking the same hallway. at 8:36 pm, he bolts from a doorway with the shotgun through a still-standing magnetometer. prosecutors say he also carried a .38-caliber pistol, ammunition, and multiple knives and daggers. the shotgun had one spent shell, according to acting attorney general todd blanche. allen is charged with trying to assassinate trump, transporting a firearm in interstate commerce, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
