this follows several earlier rounds of cuts. in january, meta fired about 10% of employees working on metaverse projects — roughly 1,000 people in reality labs. another round in march hit hundreds across facebook, reality labs, global operations and sales. last month, meta said it would shift from third-party content moderators to ai technologies.
meta's global workforce was 78,865 as of dec. 31, down from 86,482 in late 2022. shares fell 2.4% on thursday and are roughly flat for the year.
