healthcare is now the single biggest driver of the us economy. the sector accounts for a larger share of gdp than any other industry, and it's still growing faster than the rest of the economy. that's not necessarily a good thing — the blurb calls it "huge" in a way that reads more like a warning than a celebration. the problem is that this growth mostly comes from rising costs, not better outcomes. americans already spend far more per person on healthcare than any other developed country, and the gap keeps widening. so the economy is increasingly dependent on an industry that's expensive, inefficient, and hard to fix.
